Convicted Sex Offender Arrested After Police Raid Uncovers Missing Juvenile in Glenview Area

A 42-year-old man from the Glenview area, who is a convicted sex offender, is now facing multiple new felony charges. This comes after Cook County sheriff's deputies raided his home and discovered a missing juvenile from the Boston area. Weston Opas, residing in the 10300 block of Michael Todd Terrace near Glenview, has been charged with various offenses including traveling to meet a child, grooming, failure to report to the sex offender registry, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon. The Cook County Sheriff's Office released this information.

Opas will remain in jail until his next court hearing on November 16, as ordered by a judge at the Skokie courthouse.

The investigation into Opas began when Cook County officials received a tip from law enforcement in Boston, indicating his connection to a missing juvenile. Detectives found that Opas and the juvenile had initially met on an online gaming app and had continued to communicate through text messages.

According to officials, Opas had traveled to the Boston area multiple times to engage in sexual activities with the juvenile. It was revealed during the investigation that Opas was aware of the juvenile's age.

On October 26, detectives conducted a raid at Opas' residence, where they successfully located and recovered the juvenile. Opas was subsequently arrested. Additionally, law enforcement discovered that Opas was in possession of a firearm, ammunition, and body armor.

The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services temporarily took custody of the juvenile until relatives could arrive and assume responsibility.

It is worth noting that on September 15, Opas was previously arrested by Glenview police after a tip was received regarding him dropping off and picking up his own child from school. At that time, authorities confirmed that Opas did not have any contact with other children while on the school premises. In that case, Opas faced two charges of being a child sex offender in a school zone.

Today Is National Deviled Eggs Day

🤭 Yes, it’s really true… there actually is a National Day that honors this Oval Delicacy!

#Celebrate the Devilishly Delicious Deviled Egg on November 2nd

Deviled eggs have a rich history as a beloved appetizer, gracing holiday spreads and potlucks with their irresistible charm. Today, their popularity remains strong and has even experienced a resurgence on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where specially designed platters are used to showcase these delightful treats. In fact, you can now find packaged deviled eggs in the deli cases of grocery stores. National Deviled Egg Day - the perfect occasion to indulge in this timeless and snackable classic.

The term "deviled" first appeared in print referring to food in 1786, when it denoted dishes that were spicy or zesty. By the 1800s, it specifically described eggs stuffed with mustard, pepper, or other zippy ingredients. While deviled eggs are no longer considered spicy by today's standards, they remain a devilishly delicious way to transform the humble hard-boiled egg into an elegant hors d'oeuvre.

On National Deviled Egg Day, get creative with recipes and ingredients! Try mixing the yolk filling with sour cream for extra creaminess, splash in some vinegar for a tangy twist, or add smoky paprika, crispy bacon, roasted peppers, or any of your favorite condiments. Top off your creamy filling with a decorative garnish to take your deviled eggs to the next level. Host a deviled egg tasting party and challenge guests to whip up their ultimate deviled egg recipes. Or simply make a platter of dressed-up deviled eggs to enjoy yourself or share at your next gathering. However you choose to observe, November 2nd is the perfect day to revel in the endless possibilities of the classic deviled egg!

 Perfectly Divine Deviled Eggs Recipe:

Ingredients:

8 large eggs

⅓ cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons cream-style horseradish sauce

1 drop hot pepper sauce, or to taste

salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes, for garnish

1 teaspoon paprika, for garnish

Directions:

Place eggs into a saucepan in a single layer and cover with water by 1 inch. Cover the saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and let eggs stand in hot water for 15 minutes. Drain and cool under cold running water in the sink.

Peel cool eggs and cut in half lengthwise. Place yolks into a mixing bowl and set whites aside. Mash yolks with a fork until smooth; stir in mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Spoon yolk mixture into a heavy plastic bag; snip a corner off the bag to create a 1/2-inch opening. Pipe yolk mixture into egg white halves. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with parsley and paprika to garnish. Enjoy!

Bears' Jaylon Johnson wants long-term deal, surprised by no trade

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson was surprised he wasn't traded after being given permission to seek a deal with another team. Johnson wants to remain with the Bears long-term but is unsatisfied with contract extension talks so far.

Johnson feels he should be paid as one of the top cornerbacks in the league based on his performance this season, but the Bears' offer does not reflect that. There is a gap between what Johnson wants and what the Bears have offered.

The Bears acquired defensive end Montez Sweat from Washington for a 2024 second-round pick. Sweat also has an expiring contract, so the Bears will likely try to extend him soon.

Johnson said he would have been offended if the Bears had agreed to an extension with Sweat as part of the trade before extending Johnson.

The Bears have struggled getting pressure on quarterbacks and acquiring Sweat should help address that need. Sweat has 35.5 career sacks while the Bears as a team only have 10 sacks this season.

The contract situations of Jaylon Johnson and Montez Sweat will be important for the Bears to resolve. Chicago invested a high draft pick to acquire Sweat and does not want to lose Johnson, their best cornerback. Extending both players will likely be a top priority for the Bears' front office in the coming weeks.
