Stand in Solidarity: Regional Office of Simon Wiesenthal Center Hosts Powerful Rally to Support Israel and Safeguard Our Future

A rally is being organized by the regional office of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Skokie, Illinois, to show support for Israel. Alison Pure Slovin, the center's Midwest region director, expressed concern for the Jewish community and their prayers for the safe release of Israeli and American hostages.

The event will take place on October 22 at Ateres Ayala, a kosher event hall. Various organizations, including the ADL, Jewish United Fund, Jewish National Fund, Assyrians Against Anti-Semitism Initiative, and the Iraqi Christian Relief Council, are partnering with the Simon Wiesenthal Center to host the event. The aim of the rally is to unite communities in solidarity with Israel and to prevent the recurrence of Holocaust-like horrors.

Glencoe's Holiday Lights Fiasco: $50,000 Spent on the Wrong Type of Lights, Reveals Village's Unusual Route to Illuminate Downtown

Downtown Glencoe will have holiday lights this year, but it took an unconventional approach to get them in place. Around $50,000 was spent on purchasing new lights after it was discovered that the wrong type of lights were stored.

The village had decided to transition from incandescent lights to LEDs for their energy efficiency and longer lifespan. However, when the stored lights were retrieved this year, it was found that they were different in brightness and color despite being marked the same.

To ensure the lights were ready in time, Village Manager Phil Kiraly proceeded with the purchase, seeking approval from trustees later. The lights are being installed by the public works department, and the village will be refunded $12,500 for the initial set of lights.

Westfield Old Orchard Unveils $100 Million Transformation: New Stores, Homes, and Entertainment for a 24/7 Mini City Experience

Westfield Old Orchard, an upscale shopping mall in Skokie, is undergoing a $100 million transformation, which is the most extensive in its 67-year history.

The owners are renovating the vacant Lord & Taylor building to accommodate smaller retailers such as Arhaus, Puttshack, and ZARA. The addition of these new stores is expected to increase foot traffic and overall sales for the entire site.

This shift away from traditional big-box retailers like Lord & Taylor is in line with the owner's vision of transforming Old Orchard into a vibrant community with residential spaces, a town square, outdoor amenities, and new dining options. The goal is to create a mini city within the mall.

Undrafted Rookie Tyson Bagent Steps Up as Starting QB for Chicago Bears Amidst Justin Fields' Injury Concerns

Tyson Bagent practiced as the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears on Wednesday, with the expectation that he will continue in that role for Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

This comes after starter Justin Fields left last week's game with a dislocated thumb on his right hand, which is still causing some grip strength issues. Coach Matt Eberflus stated that Fields' status for Week 7 remains doubtful, and surgery is still a possibility.

The team is awaiting further clarity on a long-term plan. Bagent, an undrafted rookie from Shepherd University, was impressive during the preseason and secured the backup role behind Fields. He will benefit from the additional practice reps this week. Nathan Peterman is the third quarterback on the roster and would be active if Fields is unable to play.
