Stargazers Delight: Don't Miss These 3 Astronomy Events in November

Three major astronomy events will occur in November:

  • November 3: Jupiter will be at opposition, its closest and brightest point to Earth. This provides the best views of Jupiter all year. Look for it in the night sky.

  • November 17-18: The Leonid meteor shower peaks, producing around 15 meteors per hour. Some bright fireballs are also possible.

  • November 26-27: November's full moon, called the Beaver Moon, will rise. This is the final full moon of autumn. Other names are the Frost Moon and Freezing Moon.

  • Dust off your telescopes and brace for chilly nights under the stars this month.

Highland Park Shooting Suspect Won’t Testify at Father’s Reckless Gun Trial

Important updates on the legal proceedings following the horrific Highland Park mass shooting on July 4, 2022:

- Robert Crimo Jr., the father of accused shooter Robert Crimo III, is facing charges of recklessly signing his underage son's gun application. His trial is set to begin next week.

- Crimo III will not testify at his father's trial after indicating he would plead the 5th amendment. The judge agreed he does not need to physically appear.

- The judge denied the father's requests to exclude certain prosecution witnesses, including the shooter's younger brother and a therapist who called police about the shooter's threats.

- Text messages between father and son showing the shooter was suicidal may be presented at trial.

- Portions of the shooter's police interrogation video will likely be shown.

Today Is World Vegan Day!

Vegan Black LT Sandwich

On World Vegan Day, people choose to become vegans for various reasons. Some believe in the rights of animals and fight against farming practices that harm them. Others adopt a plant-based lifestyle for its potential health benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. Additionally, some individuals choose veganism to support environmental sustainability.

While it's difficult to determine the exact number of vegans worldwide, this dietary choice is gaining popularity. Vegan meals are now promoted in restaurants, and even the Los Angeles school district serves vegan lunches. Millennials, celebrities, and athletes are increasingly embracing the vegan diet.

To observe World Vegan Day, the Vegan Society and other organizations host events like vegan yoga retreats, winter festivals, and healthy food markets showcasing vegan options. New vegan restaurants often choose this day for their grand openings. If you wish to participate, avoid consuming meat and animal products. Educate yourself about different types of vegan diets and the health benefits they offer. Consider preparing a vegan meal for your family or organizing a vegan lunch at work. Make a commitment to have at least one vegan meal per week.Share your favorite vegan recipes on social media using the hashtag #WorldVeganDay

BULLS

Vucevic, Bulls Rally in 4th to Beat Pacers

The Chicago Bulls rallied to defeat the Indiana Pacers 112-105 on Monday night. Nikola Vucevic scored nine of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback. The Bulls trailed by five entering the final period but Vucevic hit three key layups to tie the game twice and give Chicago a one-point lead. DeMar DeRozan put the Bulls ahead for good with a layup to make it 101-99 with 3:46 left. Bulls coach Billy Donovan praised his team's aggressiveness in the final minutes, saying they played downhill and attacked the basket instead of settling for jumpshots.

Zach LaVine had 23 points and DeRozan added 20, though the pair shot a combined 12 of 36. The Bulls went 26 of 31 from the free throw line while the Pacers shot 21 of 25. Despite opening the season 2-0, the Pacers hurt themselves by taking 46 three-point attempts and making just 12. Myles Turner led Indiana with 20 points, Tyrese Haliburton had 19 points and 13 assists, and Bennedict Mathurin and Bruce Brown each scored 15. Haliburton's late layup gave the Pacers a 55-53 halftime edge. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said his team played hard but needs to learn from the loss.

Chicago Bears Part Ways with Running Backs Coach David Walker Amidst Workplace Conduct Concerns

The Chicago Bears have let go of running backs coach David Walker, as confirmed by head coach Matt Eberflus. The decision to fire Walker allegedly involved the team's human resources department. This marks the second time this season that human resources has been implicated in a coach's departure from the Bears.

Walker joined the Bears in 2022 as part of Eberflus' coaching staff, shortly after Eberflus himself was hired. Prior to this, Walker had served as a running backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2011 to 2014 and the Detroit Lions from 2016 to 2018.

According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Walker was reportedly fired due to his behavior in the workplace. Eberflus stated that Walker did not meet the organization's standards. It's important to note that Walker's firing and the previous resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams are unrelated incidents, according to ESPN.
