NEW TRIER BOYS SOCCER

New Trier Boys Soccer Claims First State Title Since 2008 With Dominant 3-1 Win Over Lyons Township

The New Trier boys soccer team captured the Class 3A state championship on Saturday, defeating Lyons Township 3-1. Senior midfielder Ian Vichnick opened the scoring just 12 minutes in with a brilliant long-range strike, continuing his tradition of scoring one goal per season in a big moment. Cole Driscoll then doubled New Trier's lead in the 24th minute by finishing off a perfect counterattack led by Aidan O'Neill.

New Trier controlled possession in the first half, limiting Lyons' chances. Kevin Farina made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute by intercepting a pass and finishing a great individual effort. Lyons got one back from a set piece but New Trier's defense held strong.

The Trevians capped off a spectacular 23-1 season with the dominant victory. Head coach Matt Ravenscraft praised his team's possession soccer and back line. Aidan O'Neill was stellar in midfield after joining New Trier this year. It's the program's first state title since 2008 and an unforgettable achievement for the players and coaches.

New Trier's Playoff Run Ends in Supersectional Loss to Benet

The New Trier girls volleyball team's memorable playoff run ended with a loss to Benet Academy in the supersectional. New Trier started strong in the first set before Benet pulled away for a 25-19 win. Benet dominated the second set 25-14. The loss ended New Trier's 14-match win streak and their first sectional title since 2017. New Trier fought hard but struggled against Benet's strong defense and sizable blockers. The Trevians will graduate several talented seniors but return many key juniors and sophomores next season after gaining valuable playoff experience. Despite the difficult loss, New Trier played with heart and should hold their heads high.

BEARS

Turnovers Doom Bears in 24-17 Loss to Saints

The Bears' loss to the Saints was mainly due to turnovers, resulting in a 24-17 defeat. The Bears had a turnover margin of -5. Quarterback Tyson Bagent had four turnovers (3 interceptions and a fumble), but the Bears still had opportunities to tie the game in the fourth quarter, which they couldn't capitalize on.

In the first half, Bagent performed well, leading two touchdown drives. He excelled in short-range passes. However, the second half was different, with more turnovers and struggles.

  1. The Bears' defense couldn't be blamed as the Saints' offense started most of their possessions in Bears territory. The Saints focused on short passes and ball security, resulting in only 10 points in the second half.

  2. Montez Sweat had a quiet debut for the Bears, and the team struggled to record sacks. He's still adjusting to the team and learning the playbook.

  3. Cole Kmet had a standout performance, catching two touchdown passes, while Darnell Mooney also had a good day. The offensive line committed costly penalties despite decent pass protection.

  4. Left tackle Braxton Jones returned from injury, but offensive line penalties plagued the team. Overall, the offensive line is close to full strength.

BLACKHAWKS

Chicago Blackhawks Face New Lawsuit Over Allegations of Sexual Abuse and Concealment During 2009-2010 Season

The Chicago Blackhawks are facing a lawsuit regarding sexual abuse and harassment allegations by former video coach Brad Aldrich during the 2009-2010 season. The victim, identified as "John Doe," was a player from the minor-league team who practiced with the Blackhawks. The lawsuit alleges grooming, harassment, threats, and assault by Aldrich and claims that the team concealed the complaint in pursuit of a Stanley Cup. Attorneys for the victim will share more details soon.

The Blackhawks emphasize their commitment to addressing workplace misconduct and mention a past independent investigation initiated over two years ago. None of the current team members are implicated. In 2010, player Kyle Beach accused Aldrich of sexual assault, leading to a 2021 investigation, which resulted in fines and the removal of top executives. The investigation revealed the team's delayed response to Beach's allegations, and Beach shared how he felt marginalized while Aldrich was celebrated. Aldrich left the team and faced legal consequences, and the team's general manager and president, Stan Bowman, resigned in 2021.

Spread Holiday Cheer with Caring Neighbors

The Caring Neighbors program at New Trier Township has long provided gifts to local families facing financial hardship during the holidays. For years, our generous community members have stepped up to sponsor a neighbor in need.

While parents rarely submit their own wish lists, sponsors often include gift cards for the parents as well. The program keeps both donors and recipients confidential. To protect privacy, township staff distribute the gifts during private appointments with the families.

How You Can Help

Township staff identify and qualify families in need of holiday gifts for their children. The families submit wish lists with items their children would enjoy and make good use of. Donors then sponsor a family and purchase age-appropriate gifts for the children.

To learn more about sponsoring a local family this holiday season, please contact Jeanne Winsted Rosser at (847) 446-8201 or [email protected]. Your generosity will spread holiday cheer to our neighbors in need.

We could use your help

We’ve got big plans as we get up to speed! But we need your help!

One huge way that you can help us is to spread the word for us.

Please share New Trier Thrive with them! It’s simple! 👇👇👇
