Crimo Jr. faced felony reckless conduct charges for signing an affidavit enabling his then 19-year-old son Robert "Bobby" Crimo III to obtain a gun license before age 21. The son is accused of killing 7 and injuring over 50 at the 2022 parade.

North Shore Area Hospitals Shine in Fall 2023 Safety Report
In the latest report by The Leapfrog Group, North Shore area hospitals in Illinois are lauded for their significant improvements in preventing infections and enhancing patient safety. The report uses a grading system to assess nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide.
North Shore area hospitals that received the top "A" grade include:
NorthShore University HealthSystem - Evanston Hospital, Evanston
NorthShore University HealthSystem - Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview
NorthShore University HealthSystem - Highland Park Hospital, Highland Park
Northwestern Medicine, Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest
While hospitals nationwide have reduced infections after the pandemic spike, patient-reported experiences have declined for the second year. In Illinois, 27 hospitals received the top "A" grade, and none received an "F."
The report underscores the commitment of our local hospitals to patient safety and reducing infections. However, patient experience declines remain a concern.

Today Is International Merlot Day
Raise Your Glass for International Merlot Day!
Join in on the festivities today for International Merlot Day, a ‘wine holiday” celebrating one of the most popular red wines worldwide. Whether you're a longtime Merlot fan or just discovering this exquisite wine, take this opportunity to savor its rich flavors.
The name "merlot" comes from the French word for blackbird, referring to the grape's deep, dark hue. Though many believe cabernet sauvignon is the premier Bordeaux grape, Merlot is actually the most planted varietal in the region. Merlot is also the 5th most planted grape in Italy and 2nd in Israel.
Beyond Bordeaux, Merlot thrives in California, Washington, Chile, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Greece, Mexico and more. Each region lends its own unique twist, resulting in diverse Merlot styles and flavors.
Experts describe Merlot as offering lush dark fruit tones like black cherry, blackberry, plum and raspberry, plus subtle herbal notes and hints of vanilla and mocha. While dry, Merlot can have slightly bitter qualities from the grape skins.
To honor the day, venues will showcase Merlots and offer deals on bottles. Attend tastings, demonstrations and gatherings appreciating this beloved wine.
If new to Merlot, now's the perfect time to try it. Sip a glass while enjoying a "Merlot movie" like A Walk in the Clouds or Somm.
Celebrate on social media using #InternationalMerlotDay and share your Merlot love. Let International Merlot Day introduce you to rich flavors and memorable experiences. #DRINK RESPONSIBLY
SPORTS
CUBS
Craig Counsell has made the surprising switch to manage the Chicago Cubs, causing quite a stir in the baseball community. The former manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, and a native of the city, made the decision to join a divisional competitor, shocking many.
Counsel was in the midst of exploring his options in free agency after his contract with the Brewers concluded at the end of October. During this period, he was pursued by several teams, including the New York Mets, who even extended an offer. However, the Mets moved on to Carlos Mendoza when they learned of Counsell’s decision to go elsewhere.
Previously, the Brewers had attempted to retain Counsell with a lucrative extension that would have positioned him as the highest-paid manager in the sport. Nevertheless, Counsell turned it down, seeking to push the financial boundaries for managers even further.
The Chicago Cubs' interest in Counsell came as a late and unexpected development. His leadership had intensified the rivalry with the Cubs, especially since he guided the Brewers to multiple division titles and a critical victory at Wrigley Field that clinched the division in 2018.
Regarding Counsell’s new compensation, it's reported by The Athletic that he will receive over $40 million over five years, placing him not only at the top among managers' salaries but also among the most significant managerial contracts in the history of baseball.
As for the Brewers' next steps, the quest for a new manager is still ongoing, having been delayed due to the unexpected developments with Counsell. The team has only recently started to interview candidates.
Counsell departs the Brewers with a remarkable track record, holding the most managerial wins in the team’s history and boasting a .531 win ratio. He also has a deep connection with the Brewers, having been a fan in his youth and serving as a player before transitioning to a role in the front office post-retirement.

Spread Holiday Cheer with Caring Neighbors
The Caring Neighbors program at New Trier Township has long provided gifts to local families facing financial hardship during the holidays. For years, our generous community members have stepped up to sponsor a neighbor in need.
While parents rarely submit their own wish lists, sponsors often include gift cards for the parents as well. The program keeps both donors and recipients confidential. To protect privacy, township staff distribute the gifts during private appointments with the families.
How You Can Help: Township staff identify and qualify families in need of holiday gifts for their children. The families submit wish lists with items their children would enjoy and make good use of. Donors then sponsor a family and purchase age-appropriate gifts for the children.
To learn more about sponsoring a local family this holiday season, please contact Jeanne Winsted Rosser at (847) 446-8201 or [email protected]. Your generosity will spread holiday cheer to our neighbors in need.
