WEATHER

Hi There New Trier Township Dog Owners! My name is Stephanie and I'm the owner of Benny's Groovy Grooming in Wilmette. At Benny's, our top priority is providing a calm and relaxing grooming experience for your furry friend. I offer both in-home grooming services where I come to you, or dog taxi service to my in-home salon.

Because I keep my overhead costs low, I'm able to limit my daily appointments and give each pup the individual attention and care they deserve. This allows me to focus on customer service and creating the perfect groom for your doggo.

If you're looking for a groomer who will treat your dog like one of the family, please check out my website at bennysgroovygrooming.com to learn more or schedule an appointment. I look forward to meeting you and your pup soon!

Doctors Remove Man's Lungs, Use Breast Implants to Save His Life

Surgeons at Northwestern Medicine recently took the extraordinary step of removing both lungs from a 34-year-old Missouri man and using breast implants to keep him alive before a transplant.

The man, Davey Bauer, developed a severe lung infection that filled his lungs with pus, according to doctors. His lungs were so damaged that a transplant wasn't possible, so physicians decided to remove them entirely and create an artificial lung to oxygenate his blood.

With no lungs inside his chest, Bauer's heart risked collapsing. So doctors used DD-sized breast implants to prop open his chest cavity. Plastic surgeons advised on implants that would fit and mold well.

After the infected lungs were removed, Bauer's body started to clear the infection. He was quickly listed for a lung transplant and received new lungs the next day. Doctors called it unbelievable that he survived with no lungs, just implants keeping his heart pumping.

Today Is International Kindness Day!

Tell Everybody You Know!

Hey friend! Today November 13th is World Kindness Day, a special holiday all about spreading more kindness around the globe. The World Kindness Movement started celebrating this day back in 1998 to remind us of how powerful small acts of generosity and compassion can be. People in many countries like the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, and the UAE take part to help make the world a little brighter. World Kindness Day is a chance for us to think about one of our most beautiful human qualities that brings all people together. On this day made for big and small deeds of goodwill, let's see how many smiles we can share and kindness we can spread. The possibilities are endless when we make kindness a priority!

New Trier's Ben Crane Secures All-State Finish with Remarkable Junior Cross-Country Season

Ben Crane, a New Trier sophomore in the spring, finished 10th in the two-mile race at the state track and field finals, narrowly missing an All-State medal. His cross-country coach noticed a significant improvement in his performance. In his junior year, Crane achieved a third-place finish in the IHSA state championships with a New Trier junior record time of 14 minutes 20.16 seconds. He was less than seven seconds behind the state champion. This marked the culmination of a successful 2023 campaign that included various championships. New Trier placed seventh as a team, with Downers Grove North winning the title. Highland Park also had a strong showing, finishing 10th as a team. Additionally, North Shore Country Day had two runners in the state finals for the first time in program history. The New Trier girls' team had solid performances, led by junior Josie Cahill.

Eberflus Praises Bears Defense, Sweat and Gordon After Win Over Panthers

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus praised several defensive players for their performance in the team's 16-13 win over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night. Eberflus highlighted defensive end Montez Sweat, who was traded to the Bears from Washington in October. Sweat recorded 8 pressures and 3 quarterback hits on Panthers rookie QB Bryce Young. Eberflus said Sweat's presence has benefited the entire defensive line.

Eberflus also complimented second-year nickel back Kyler Gordon, who had 8 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and a key pass breakup. Eberflus said Gordon has dynamic playmaking ability and instincts.

While pleased with the overall defensive effort, Eberflus noted the Bears need to improve at generating turnovers after dropping some potential interceptions. He cited strong complementary football between the defense, special teams and offense as a key to the win.

Spread Holiday Cheer with Caring Neighbors

The Caring Neighbors program at New Trier Township has long provided gifts to local families facing financial hardship during the holidays. For years, our generous community members have stepped up to sponsor a neighbor in need.

While parents rarely submit their own wish lists, sponsors often include gift cards for the parents as well. The program keeps both donors and recipients confidential. To protect privacy, township staff distribute the gifts during private appointments with the families.

How You Can Help: Township staff identify and qualify families in need of holiday gifts for their children. The families submit wish lists with items their children would enjoy and make good use of. Donors then sponsor a family and purchase age-appropriate gifts for the children.

To learn more about sponsoring a local family this holiday season, please contact Jeanne Winsted Rosser at (847) 446-8201 or [email protected]. Your generosity will spread holiday cheer to our neighbors in need.
