Top IL Elementary Schools: Kenilworth, Winnetka Lead 2024 Rankings Report

U.S. News & World Report released its 2024 rankings of the top elementary and middle schools in Illinois based on academic performance. The Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth ranked 4th among elementary schools. Other top elementary schools are concentrated in wealthy Chicago suburbs. Greeley Elementary in Winnetka ranked 10th. The top middle schools are in Chicago and its suburbs. The rankings considered proficiency in math and reading, student backgrounds, achievement in core subjects, and student-teacher ratios. The report is intended to help parents evaluate schools in their communities. To be ranked, districts needed at least two schools in the top 75% of elementary or middle schools. Full list Here

Northwestern Makes It Official: David Braun Named Wildcats' New Head Football Coach

The Northwestern Wildcats football team has struggled in recent years, including a dismal 1-11 record last season. This year seemed to be more of the same, with the team starting 1-3.

Looking to spark a turnaround, Northwestern appointed David Braun as interim head coach. The move paid off. Under Braun's leadership, the Wildcats have rebounded to a 5-5 record so far, with a potential bowl game still within reach.

Impressed by the dramatic mid-season transformation Braun engineered, Northwestern has now made him the permanent head coach. The administration hopes Braun can sustain this momentum as the team aims to become more competitive in the Big Ten conference.

By rewarding Braun's impressive stint with a long-term appointment, Northwestern is banking on the in-season culture change he spearheaded. If Braun can maintain the renewed sense of direction and purpose he's instilled, the future looks brighter for a program aiming to move past recent struggles.

In summary, after an interim stint that yielded an on-field turnaround, David Braun has been named permanent head coach following Northwestern's football resurgence.

Hi There New Trier Township Dog Owners! My name is Stephanie and I'm the owner of Benny's Groovy Grooming in Wilmette. At Benny's, our top priority is providing a calm and relaxing grooming experience for your furry friend. I offer both in-home grooming services where I come to you, or dog taxi service to my in-home salon.

Because I keep my overhead costs low, I'm able to limit my daily appointments and give each pup the individual attention and care they deserve. This allows me to focus on customer service and creating the perfect groom for your doggo.

If you're looking for a groomer who will treat your dog like one of the family, please check out my website at bennysgroovygrooming.com to learn more or schedule an appointment. I look forward to meeting you and your pup soon!

What’s In Your Fridge?

It's time to take a good look inside your refrigerator and clean it out! National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, observed annually on November 15, encourages us to get rid of expired and spoiled foods and give the fridge a thorough cleaning.

This holiday was created in the 1990s by Whirlpool Corporation, who wanted to promote refrigerator hygiene before the hectic holiday season. They suggested checking expiration dates, tossing moldy leftovers, wiping down shelves, and organizing contents. At one point, Whirlpool even offered a phone line where experts answered refrigerator cleaning questions.

While Whirlpool may no longer promote this holiday, it's still a great reminder for us all. Cleaning the fridge prevents foodborne illness and makes room for fresh groceries and holiday leftovers. So take everything out, check dates, wipe down the interior, and reorder your shelves. Your refrigerator will be sparkling clean for the upcoming festivities!

Spread Holiday Cheer with Caring Neighbors

The Caring Neighbors program at New Trier Township has long provided gifts to local families facing financial hardship during the holidays. For years, our generous community members have stepped up to sponsor a neighbor in need.

While parents rarely submit their own wish lists, sponsors often include gift cards for the parents as well. The program keeps both donors and recipients confidential. To protect privacy, township staff distribute the gifts during private appointments with the families. How You Can Help: Township staff identify and qualify families in need of holiday gifts for their children. The families submit wish lists with items their children would enjoy and make good use of. Donors then sponsor a family and purchase age-appropriate gifts for the children. To learn more about sponsoring a local family this holiday season, please contact Jeanne Winsted Rosser at (847) 446-8201 or [email protected]. Your generosity will spread holiday cheer to our neighbors in need.
