Quick Steps to Disable NameDrop on Your iPhone:

In an age where personal information security is paramount, iPhone users might want to consider turning off the NameDrop feature that is, by default, activated with iOS 17. To ensure your contact information remains secure, follow these easy steps:

  • Begin by opening the 'Settings' on your iPhone.

  • Proceed by selecting the 'General' option.

  • Within 'General', find and click on 'AirDrop'.

  • Lastly, to disable NameDrop, switch the 'Bringing Devices Together' option to the off position.

Remember, maintaining control over your personal information is a crucial step in preventing cybercrime.

Revolutionizing Education with Human-Centered Design at New Trier

The innovative program of Human-Centered Design (HCD) is revitalizing the educational landscape at New Trier, a high school where the traditional learning boundaries are blurred. Five years ago, the inception of this unique program began with a shared vision among community members to create a specialized learning environment, akin to the Integrated Global Studies School (IGSS), but with an emphasis on business, entrepreneurship, and engineering. Unlike IGSS, the HCD program is designed to permeate all subjects rather than functioning as an isolated entity. The program is spearheaded by New Trier teachers Mark Bowers, Julie Barr, Jason Boumstein, and Chris Van Den Berg, who collaborate closely with the administration and other teachers to instill HCD principles in all areas of study.

As part of their endeavors, they are working on a Professional Learning Collaborative (PLC) that involves teachers from each department, spreading the tenets of HCD to enable educators to integrate them into their existing curriculum. The Siebel Center for Design, a key partner in the process, helps to demystify the complexities of the HCD program to the teachers while fostering collaboration and encouraging the generation of ideas. Furthermore, the Center is spearheading research to evaluate the impact of professional development at New Trier, collecting data to measure the benefits of implementing HCD-focused units. This fresh, versatile program is creating a palpable buzz among the teachers and students, and the excitement is infectious.

Northwestern Football: A New Era under Coach Braun

Northwestern football hit a stride under the leadership of newly appointed head coach, David Braun, as he was declared Big Ten Coach of the Year just a fortnight after his official appointment. Braun, who initially joined as the team's defensive coordinator in December, was promoted to interim head coach in July following the dismissal of Pat Fitzgerald. Unanimously selected by fellow Big Ten coaches and media, Braun's accolade signifies a turning point for Northwestern.

Braun steered the Wildcats to a respectable 7-5 record, a significant improvement over the mere two victories logged in the previous two seasons under Fitzgerald. His achievement also marked the highest win record for a first-year Northwestern head coach since 1903, and the largest win improvement for any FBS team this season. Amidst the turmoil and controversies surrounding the team, Braun's focus on the game remarkably uplifted the Wildcats, securing them a spot in the postseason bowl game.

Seasonal Cheer on Track: Metra Extends Holiday Train Service to Union Pacific North Rail Line

Metra has increased its holiday train services with the inclusion of a sixth train, slated to run in mid-December, complete with seasonal favorites like Santa and Mrs. Claus. This expansion covers six rail lines, including the newly added Union Pacific North, among existing ones like Metra Electric, BNSF, Milwaukee District West, Rock Island, and Union Pacific Northwest. Tickets for the Union Pacific North, scheduled for December 16, are priced at $5 and set to go on sale at 7 a.m. Thursday, after the tickets for the other lines sold out in less than a day. The train's route starts from Waukegan at 11:10 a.m., passing through numerous stations before reaching a festively decorated Ogilvie Transportation Center at 12:30 p.m. After a brief pause, the train departs at 1:35 p.m., offering riders the flexibility to return immediately or utilize their ticket for a later ride. The packed holiday trains are scheduled for different Saturdays, dependent on the rail line, enhancing the festive joy for commuters this holiday season.

Spread Holiday Cheer with Caring Neighbors 🎄🕎

The Caring Neighbors program at New Trier Township has long provided gifts to local families facing financial hardship during the holidays. For years, our generous community members have stepped up to sponsor a neighbor in need.

While parents rarely submit their own wish lists, sponsors often include gift cards for the parents as well. The program keeps both donors and recipients confidential. To protect privacy, township staff distribute the gifts during private appointments with the families. How You Can Help: Township staff identify and qualify families in need of holiday gifts for their children. The families submit wish lists with items their children would enjoy and make good use of. Donors then sponsor a family and purchase age-appropriate gifts for the children. To learn more about sponsoring a local family this holiday season, please contact Jeanne Winsted Rosser at (847) 446-8201 or [email protected]. Your generosity will spread holiday cheer to our neighbors in need.
