After hearing resident concerns, the Wilmette Village Board met privately to discuss potential litigation to stop Northwestern University's plan to hold large concerts at Ryan Field. Residents oppose the concerts over expected issues like traffic, parking problems, noise, and decreased property values. They urged the board to sue within 90 days.

The Wilmette village president acknowledged residents' advocacy against the stadium plan over 18 months. She agreed Northwestern has not addressed resident worries sufficiently. However, the president cautioned against discussing legal strategies publicly.

Northwestern aims to fund its $800 million stadium rebuild partly through concerts fitting 28,000 people. The Evanston City Council recently approved the commercialization plan, despite a land use commission's rejection recommendation. A resident lawsuit against Evanston was already filed.

Wilmette officials previously passed a resolution noting issues with the concerts. The village president also unsuccessfully lobbied Evanston leaders to deny Northwestern's proposal. It is unclear if Wilmette would sue Evanston or the university.

Quaker Oats Recalls Granola Bars and Cereals Over Salmonella Concerns

Quaker Oats has announced a voluntary recall of dozens of its granola bars and granola cereals over potential salmonella contamination. The recall includes a variety of Quaker Big Chewy Bars, granola bar variety packs, and Quaker Simply Granola cereals sold across the U.S. as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan.

The recall was initiated after the company's supplier notified them of the possible contamination. Though no illnesses have been reported, Quaker Oats is urging consumers to dispose of and not consume any of the recalled products.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can enter the food supply chain when proper sanitation and hand washing practices are not followed. An estimated 1.35 million salmonella cases occur annually in the U.S., leading to thousands of hospitalizations. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.

Consumers can contact Quaker or visit www.quakergranolarecall.com for reimbursement or additional information. The company is a subsidiary of PepsiCo.
