From Record-Breaking Heat to Bone-Chilling Cold: Chicago Braces for Coldest Halloween in Years!

Chicago experienced a record-breaking 83-degree temperature on Tuesday, but residents are now preparing for what could potentially be one of the coldest Halloweens ever recorded. Although Halloween in Chicago is typically considered cold and possibly snowy, most holidays have not been as cold or snowy as expected. According to the National Weather Service, snowfall has been recorded on only eight Halloweens since historical records began. The area's temperature and precipitation patterns usually undergo changes during this time of year, which can create a perception of coldness in our memories, even if temperatures drop from 75 to 60 degrees.

Village of Wilmette advises to:

Put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.

Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.

Drivers should slow down and be especially alert; children are excited and may move in unpredictable ways.

Hyatt Regency O'Hare Chicago Cancels American Muslims for Palestine Convention Amidst Heightened Safety Concerns

The Hyatt Regency O'Hare Chicago has announced that it will no longer be hosting the American Muslims for Palestine convention, which was scheduled to take place next month. The hotel made this decision due to multiple threats received in relation to the event. In a statement released on Sunday night, a spokesperson for the hotel emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of guests and colleagues are their top priority. Given the current global climate of increased threats and violent acts, the hotel has determined that there is an elevated risk to the safety and security of hotel guests, colleagues, and the community associated with hosting this event. After careful consideration of these concerns, the decision has been made not to host the convention at the hotel this year.

Today Is World Audio Drama Day

World Audio Drama Day, honors the evolution of storytelling through sound. This form of entertainment, which spans from radio plays to modern podcasts, has a rich history and continues to captivate audiences with its immersive storytelling. The day encourages the exploration and appreciation of this unique art form.

The popularity of audio drama can be traced back to the late 1920s and early 1930s when radio became a widely used medium. One of the most famous audio drama productions was Orson Welles' radio adaptation of H.G. Wells' science fiction novel, "The War of the Worlds." This broadcast caused mass hysteria as some listeners mistook the fictional story for a real alien invasion.

In addition to radio, audiobooks emerged as another form of audio drama, gaining significant popularity with the invention of cassette tapes and portable cassette tape players. With the advent of the digital age in the late 1990s and early 2000s, audiobooks became a billion-dollar industry. More recently, podcasts have become a popular platform for enjoying audio drama over the internet.

To celebrate World Audio Drama Day, many radio stations broadcast "The War of the Worlds," offering listeners a chance to experience the infamous production. Audiobook publishers often provide special discounts on their products, and audio drama podcasters may use the occasion to introduce new series. Join the celebration of World Audio Drama Day and explore the captivating world of storytelling through sounds.  #LISTENTOYOURDRAMAMAMA!

LOYOLA RAMBLERS

Loyola Academy's Coach John Holecek Returns to Ignite Ramblers' Playoff Domination, Leading to a 45-9 Victory

Coach John Holecek, who guided Loyola Academy to victory in last year's IHSA Class 8A State Championship, recently addressed the Ramblers before their first playoff game. Holecek was invited by his close friend and successor, Beau Desherow, who emphasized the importance of brotherhood and welcomed Holecek back as part of the Rambler family. The Ramblers received this message from both coaches and went on to dominate Plainfield North with a 45-9 win. Loyola Academy, with a perfect 10-0 record, will continue their playoff journey on November 4th, facing Neuqua Valley (7-3) at Hoerster Field. Neuqua Valley earned their spot by defeating Palatine in the opening round.

Desherow acknowledged that the Ramblers were caught off guard by Plainfield North's opening drive but managed to limit them to a field goal. Loyola responded by scoring on their first possession, with quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald connecting with Will Carlson for a touchdown. The Ramblers maintained their momentum throughout the game, scoring touchdowns through various plays and interceptions.

Senior defensive end Jimmy McGovern expressed confidence in the team's ability to improve further in the playoffs.

Aside from their successful regular season, Loyola Academy received several awards. Desherow was named the conference coach of the year, while Fitzgerald was recognized as the Blue Division's Offensive Player of the Year. Joe Kelly received the Lineman of the Year award, and McGovern was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Other players, such as Drew MacPherson, Nicholas Arogundade, Emmanuel Ofosu, Colin Scheid, and Quinn Herbert, were also acknowledged for their contributions.

Desherow's appointment as head coach holds sentimental value as he previously served as an assistant coach under Holecek before transitioning to work in admissions and enrollment. Holecek has full confidence in Desherow's abilities and believes Loyola football is in good hands.

Throughout the regular season, the Ramblers showcased a strong defense, allowing an average of only 8.5 points per game, with several shutouts and low-scoring matches. Players like Jack McGrath, JT Kurtzweil, and Davidson Hagedorn played vital roles in the team's success.

With their impressive regular season performance and dominant first playoff game, Loyola Academy and their coach, Beau Desherow, have a promising future ahead.

Detroit Pistons Defeat Chicago Bulls 118-102, Alen Duren's Dominance Shines with 23 Points and 15 Rebounds, Breaking LeBron James' Record

The Detroit Pistons won against the Chicago Bulls with a score of 118-102, thanks to Alen Duren's 23 points and 15 rebounds. Despite Zach LaVine's career-high of 51 points for the Bulls, the Pistons' team effort prevailed. Rookie Ausar Thompson played well on defense, limiting LaVine's scoring. The victory ended the Pistons' losing streak against the Bulls and saw Duren surpass LeBron James in double-doubles by a teenager in NBA/ABA history. Teamwork led by Duren and Cunningham was crucial in their win over the Bulls. Overall, it was an exciting game that showcased both teams' talents and resilience.

BEARS

Unfortunate Slip Costs Bears a Potential Touchdown in Sunday Night Showdown

In the second quarter of Week 8's Sunday night game against the Chargers, the Bears were in need of a boost. They were trailing 17-0 when they decided to call for a long pass to wide receiver Velus Jones. Jones had managed to get past his defender by a significant margin, but unfortunately, he slipped while trying to follow the trajectory of the ball. As a result, he fell over and was unable to catch what could have been an easy touchdown pass. The pass from Tyson Bagent was executed perfectly, hitting Jones directly in the chest even as he fell onto his back. However, despite the accuracy of the throw, Jones, a former third-round pick, was unable to maintain possession of the ball, leading to a disappointing incomplete pass.

Despite this missed opportunity, the Bears were able to score on the same drive. However, it is evident that they could have scored points much earlier if Jones had managed to stay on his feet.
